Sustainable Development in the Principality of Monaco

Sustainable Development in the Principality of Monaco is of course embodied by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco. The issue is particularly highlighted by the following of the Sovereign Prince's many speeches:

Investiture speech on 12 July 2005:
"...I am an ardent defender of the environment. I am following the tradition of my predecessors, illustrated in many ways, including the creation of the Museum of Oceanography, the Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology and the Exotic Garden of Monaco, and the promotion of maritime law, notably through the RAMOGE Agreement, which was dear to my father, to protect the marine environment."
"This collective commitment to protecting the environment should be one of our country's contributions to the international community."

or at the EVER conference held on 1 April 2006:
"…given these global issues, what role should the Principality play? Because of its size, the Principality cannot hope to weigh heavily in the planet's major environmental and ecological balances, and yet it ought to be exemplary in this field- this is, in any case, the choice I have made."

During the launch of the Prince Albert II Foundation on 27 June 2006:
"...rest assured of My personal and unflagging commitment to achieving this goal."

«The environment is a shared resource;
it is our duty to protect it»

"I decided to create a Foundation dedicated to environmental protection and sustainable development (...). This is a shared global challenge that requires urgent and concrete action in response to three major environmental issues: climate change, biodiversity and water use."
